Perlis exco line-up to include woman rep

KANGAR: The Perlis executive councillor line-up, which is usually dominated by men, may include a woman this time after nearly a decade.

It is learnt that the position could be given to a Wanita Umno member.

The previous women exco members were Che Ah Long in 1990 and Datuk Ooi Ah Lan in 2004.

The two female Barisan Nasional politicians who won their seats in the 13th general election were state Wanita Umno chief Rela Ahmad (Bintong) and state Puteri Umno chief Asmaiza Ahmad (Chuping).

The 10th Perlis Mentri Besar Azlan Man, 54, who was sworn in last Tuesday after winning the Pauh state seat, said he would announce the exco line-up after he gets approval from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and consent from the Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail.

Barisan won all the three parliamentary seats and 13 state seats, but lost the Titi Tinggi and Sanglang state seats to PKR and PAS respectively.

Of the 13 assemblymen, six are former exco members.

Talk is rife that among the exco members likely to be retained are Datuk Mat Rawi Kassim and Sabry Ahmad.
