Pixman punched at DAP ceramah

GEORGE TOWN: A photographer from a Chinese daily covering a DAP ceramah in Kampung Sungai Gelugor here was punched by a man who tried to disrupt the event.

The man was with nine others during the incident at about 9.40pm yesterday.

K.W. Sin, 25, from China Press, said he was not taking photographs at the time the man punched him on the right ear.

He later sped off on a motorcycle.

“After I was punched, someone told me and the other photographers there that we should not be taking photographs,” he said.

Sin later lodged a police report at the Bayan Baru police station.

DAP national chairman Karpal Singh, who was present at the ceramah, said a culture of violence should not be tolerated.

“We want clean and fair elections and we hope the offender will be arrested and charged in court,” he said.

Earlier at about 9.30pm, around 100 men disrupted the ceramah by riding past and booing for some five minutes.
